Nothing is Impossible for Dreamers
Creating the life you want is an exciting way to spend your days! The majority of people often dream about a life scenario that is different than the life they are currently leading. Whether it is daydreaming about your "dream job" or waiting for "some day" to happen, many people feel as though there is more to life than the regular 9-5. And you know what? There IS! There is more to life than any job you could ever have. If you want to forge a new path in your life, you can do it and it starts by getting positive about yourself. Instead of complaining about your job, we all must realize that our jobs should never be our "identity." Many people base their whole identity on their job and would be lost without something to do everyday and while they may hate their daily grind, the thought of doing something they really want to do is terrifying! I am not ever suggesting that someone quit their job! No no! You don't need to quit your job to forge a new life path that is deeply satisfying! You need health insurance at the very least! I am reminding you to consider whether or not your job is your whole identity. Know always that you are so much more than the job title you hold, indeed, we all are...way more! Therefore, start by letting go of your identity solely based on your job, and begin to forge a new identity. The more you can see yourself as more than a 9-5er, the easier it will be to create the life you truly desire. As you embark on this process, understand that most of this process starts in your own heart and mind. It is a way of seeing your place in the world differently than you did before. Please, don't quit your job during the early stages of your transformation. Don't tell the boss to take this job and shove it! You must embrace and love your responsibilities of taking care of you, your family and friends closest to you. It is entirely possible that you will remain in your current job through the metamorphosis in which you are undergoing. Creating the life you really want has nothing to do with the job that you do from day to day. Instead, creating the life you truly want will come from the inside out and as you bloom from the catepillar at work into the beautiful butterfly in the breakroom, the people around you will marvel and be inspired by your new outlook on life. Once you seperate your identity from that of your job title, you will find that work is less stressful and more enjoyable, and thus you may not feel the need to change careers at all, even though you probably will!!! Take your metamorphosis slowly. Like the Silver Turtles, slow and steady wins the race!
Visualize, say out loud, and write down what it is you really want. Do you want a bigger house? More money? If so, change your priorities. The greatest "things" in life are not really "things" at all, but people. Instead of obsessing about investing in your 401k, invest in people! I am not saying to invest money in people, necessarily, although braces for your kids teeth and college tuiton for your children are important priorities. I am just saying not to love things more than people :) Now look at your list again, and try focusing on building and investing in the people around you. You don't have to invest a penny in the ones you love, you must invest your TIME!!! Building up those around you is empowering for you AND for them. Now as you look at your new list of people in which you want to invest, remember that the far off "someday this" and "someday that" are nothing but a carrot on a stick! Instead, focus on today. Now is the time. Be here now. Invest in making TODAY beautiful and tomorrow will flow positively as a result.
A great teacher of mind once told me "Life isn't about weathering the storm, it's about dancing in the rain!" How true, however, don't dance in the rain next to the tallest tree on a golf course! What I mean by that is, indeed, celebrate each day (even in stormy weather) and learn to enjoy it. Make lemons out of lemonade, er, I mean, lemonade out of lemons (you fill in the 5000 other similar sayings). You should enjoy every day of your life, but use your wisdom to know "where" to dance (HOW to dance, well, that's a whole other hub!). Butt, seriously, don't think in order to have a new life you need to throw away your old life! Recycle! Use your old life again and again in the form of wise sayings, lessons learned, etc.
Now, look back at your revised list. Did you write a list from top to bottom on your paper? Like a checklist? Yeah, I did too...in the beginning. Now, take your list and get a new recycled piece of paper and draw a circle and divide it into 12 slices (like a pizza). Now, pretend you are in the center of the wheel inside a tiny wheel in a wheel (your chart should now look like a bicycle tire with many spokes. You are the wheel, and the more spokes in your wheel, the better! What are the spokes? Well, take your list written from top to bottom and now write your goals on the spokes of a wheel and then you will see things from a different perspective. No longer are you concentrating on going down your linear list of desires and focusing on the "some day" and instead, you are seeing your desires as spokes on your wheel with you in the middle! Turn your paper around and watch your wheel role around! This little trick will help you focus on the here and now and not "someday" when you finish your linear list of desires. Be here now. You are the wheel. The more spokes you have in your wheel, the better you will roll!
Do you think that you and your wife/husband don't have the same vision? If both of you make your own wheel diagrams, then you can put them up together on your bedroom wall next to each other and it will look like a two-wheel bicycle! Then, instead of feeling like your two lists are totally incompatible, you will see that instead of two linear lists of dreams that have nothing to do with each other, they will be two wheels of a bicycle that roll together and you will realize as you each turn your wheel that eventually you will have dreams that touch each other and can work together! Whereas once you thought you and your partner didn't have dreams in common, when you each turn your wheel, eventually, the two of you will have dreams (or spokes of your wheels) that fit together like chocolate and peanut butter! By creating dream wheels, it will help you and your partner see that your dreams actually can roll together like wheels on a bicycle!!! Your two wheels are not unlike the Mayan calendar wheels that turn together like two cogs in a machine and eventually, your dreams will line up together like the days of the Mayan calendar!!!
All of my hubs are spokes in my wheel. I think I'm gonna go for a ride instead of "...just sitting here watching the wheels go 'round and 'round...you know I love to watch them roll..." (J. Lennon).
To be continued...
P.S. always obey the rules of the road when rolling :) Be safe. Have fun!

"The Naked Sun" by Isaac Asimov
I highly recommend this book. The story takes place in the future where there are human colonies on distant planets and Earth is very over-populated. The main character from Earth must travel to the planet Solaria to help solve a crime. The planet, Solaria, is populated by only 20,000 humans and 100,000 robots who are programmed to serve the human population. It is an interesting vision of the future created by the author, indeed. A future in which sociologists are highly respected and their research is aided by computers.
